Review: The Grimm Legacy

An excellent read for my first Tween Tuesday post! In this J Fiction book, Elizabeth has just switched schools after her dad remarries. She has no friends, a neglectful father, and a rude stepfamily. When her teacher offers to hook her up with a job, she jumps at the chance! She has no idea what she's getting into when she goes for her interview at the New-York Circulating Materials Repository. When a mystery presents itself, Elizabeth and her fellow pages must work together to save the collections and each other!

This book was so fabulous! Of course, I am always biased in favor of books with librarians - but this is no ordinary library. The materials repository lends out items, not books, and has special collections - working magical and science fiction artifacts, as well as the Lovecraft Corpus (don't even think about the Lovecraft Corpus! ;)) but it does suffer from a lame tagline (Borrow the Magic... If You Dare! Honestly.)

A wonderful take on urban fantasy - I would take a job at the New-York Circulating Materials Repository in an instant! I won't get too specific, but I adored her interview process and all of the glimpses into life at such an eccentric library. The light romance and mystery were very well done!

While the characters are in high school, I think this is definitely still a book to recommend to tweens and younger teens. The romance is very light and appropriate for younger kids. It was placed in J Fiction at our library, and is recommended for ages 9-12.
